Walter Reed Program-Nigeria Commemorates World TB Day, 2023
On Friday, March 24, our team joined the rest of the world to commemorate World Tuberculosis (TB) Day, which is celebrated annually on March 24 to raise awareness about TB and the global efforts being put in place to eradicate it.
This year’s theme, “Yes! We can end TB!” is aimed at inspiring optimism and promoting decisive leadership, amplified funding, swift implementation of new WHO guidelines, innovative approaches, prompt action, and collaborative efforts across different sectors to combat the TB epidemic.
Despite being a preventable and curable disease, TB continues to affect millions of people worldwide. Effective TB control demands a collaborative effort from all of us. If we fail to work together, this curable and preventable ailment will continue to pose a severe risk to public health, with far-reaching consequences for both individuals and societies.
At the Walter Reed Program-Nigeria, we understand that TB is one of the leading causes of death among People Living with HIV (PLHIV), which is why we focus on intensifying TB case-finding using modern technology and treatment of positive cases in military barracks and their surrounding communities.
