Since 2005, the program, part of the U.S. Military HIV Research Program (MHRP) at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR), has been working closely with the Nigerian Ministries of Defense and Health to build research infrastructure and capabilities in Nigeria.

A strong partnership with the Nigerian military and its large network of medical facilities and well-trained personnel developed through PEPFAR provides a platform to conduct HIV research as well as clinical research on other infectious disease threats including Ebola.
