World AIDS Day, 2022
Today, December 1, 2022, we join the rest of the world to mark World AIDS Day under the theme, “Putting Ourselves to the Test: Achieving Equity to End HIV.”
This awareness day remains a time to reflect on our response to HIV/AIDS while honoring the lives of those lost to AIDS-related illnesses. This day also presents us an opportunity to renew our commitment to supporting the well-being of those with HIV, as well as those at risk for infection.
With funding from PEPFAR, Walter Reed Program-Nigeria, through the partnership with the Nigeria Ministry of Defence (NMOD), has continued to leverage existing systems and structures to reach Nigerian military personnel, their dependents, and civilians with quality HIV services.
We currently support 34 military health facilities across Nigeria and provide comprehensive HIV services. These services include HIV Testing Services, Adult and Pediatric Care and Treatment, TB/HIV, Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV (PMTCT), and Laboratory Support.
As we commemorate this important day today, we reflect on the progress made and reiterate our commitment to contributing our quota as we work towards finally ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
